Marriottsville, MD (PRWEB) December 18, 2008 -- Bon Secours Health System (BSHSI) announced today the appointment of Terrence L. O'Brien as the new chief executive officer (CEO) for Bon Secours Charity Health System. Terry's appointment comes after an in-depth national search for the position vacated as a result of the departure of Dominick Stanzione in June. O'Brien will begin his leadership on February 2, 2009, reporting directly to Rich Statuto, president and chief executive officer for BSHSI.

Bon Secours Charity has grown tremendously over the years, and its people have contributed to the community in so many significant ways. Terry brings many experiences in working with and in communities for improving health and well-being. He has the skills and capabilities to lead this local system into the future. We are truly excited about his joining Bon Secours. O'Brien comes to BSHSI from Lenox Hill Hospital, a 650 bed, major teaching hospital, located on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Lenox Hill was named one of the top 50 Hospitals in the 2008 U.S. News and World Report rankings in the areas of Heart & Heart Surgery (25) and Orthopedics (32). O'Brien currently serves as the hospital's executive vice president and chief operating officer, as well as the administrative director of the Lenox Hill Healthcare Network, an IPA of 750 affiliated physicians and 5 affiliated hospitals.

O'Brien's career spans over 37 years and includes progressive responsibility and leadership positions in the areas of acute and long-term care operations, finance, strategy, physician relationships, service line management and managed care. Richard J. Statuto stated, "Terry is a hands-on operational leader who devotes significant effort to building physician partnerships. He serves on a variety of boards and New York state committees. He has a strong regional reputation, understands the New York climate, and has established contacts and relationships in the medical community. He recognizes the importance of clinical transformation and will bring keen expertise to BSHSI's efforts in this area."

Sister Anne M. Lutz, executive vice president for Sponsorship for the system added, "Bon Secours Charity has grown tremendously over the years, and its people have contributed to the community in so many significant ways. Terry brings many experiences in working with and in communities for improving health and well-being. He has the skills and capabilities to lead this local system into the future. We are truly excited about his joining Bon Secours."

O'Brien graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York with an MPA, Hospital Administration and earned his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC with a BSBA, Accounting.
